Southern Pain & Regenerative Medicine took the next step in the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis last Thursday! We performed the first three Minuteman procedures in the state of Tennessee!

Minuteman is the continued evolution in minimally invasive treatment of spinal stenosis! The procedure treats stenosis in the lumbar spine through a small incision in the side of the lower back. The device is used in conjunction with hydroxyapetite (bone cement) to create a percutaneous fusion at the treated level. Recovery is very minimal and significant relief is immediate!

These are actual photos from one of the Minuteman placements on Thursday!

The device on the top is a Vertiflex placed at the L3/4 level in December of 2017. The Vertiflex device is limited to areas with no prior surgery or significant movement. The lower level had prior surgery and we could not safely place the Vertiflex at this level.

Despite this, she had amazing relief!

Significant stenosis remained at the L4/5 level. Thursday we placed the Minuteman device.

Vertiflex has significant limitations. The device could not be placed at any level with spondylolisthesis, i.e. slippage of one vertebrae with respect to the adjacent level. The device could also not be placed at any level with significant movement.

The Minuteman device can be placed in essentially all grade 1 spondylolisthesis and most grade 2 spondylolisthesis. The device can also stabilize any significant movement. This device has been approved for degenerative disc disease as well. The device can also be utilized to stabilize metastatic cancer in lumbar vertebrae.
